3 degrees out. the sky this morning was baby blue with paler pink stripes and the last of the moon was tinted mint. really cool! max does NOT like crunching thru snow crust.

i gave extra to the birds and squirrels.

i've noticed some odd things.

usually we get flocks and flocks of dark eyed juncos that come from the north to winter here. this year. not many at all. yesterday i spotted the lone pileated woodpecker. he comes thru here in the spring and fall. he's never been here in the winter. he's a big boy and beautiful but why he is here now is a puzzle.

Interesting how the bird patterns are different this year. I love the pileated woodpecker. We see one about once a year, but it's pretty elusive.

it's odd, really strange. the wooly bear caterpillars were out early in the fall this time.

the deer's coats are very very dark. just strange. but the woodpecker? he really shouldn't be here yet.
