MY ADVENTURE...

too cool. as some of you know, i really don't travel much and when i do it's as a passenger in a car. well yesterday i took my first bus trip on one of those big charter buses. the kind with a bathroom and big big side windows.
the owls club that i belong to had a bus trip to some of the other clubs in the area.
there really aren't all that many but we were gone from about 11 a.m. and got back to our owls about 9 i think. we stayed about an hour at each club.
we went to the rochester pa. club and the burgettstown/joffre cherry valley pa. club.
burgettstown owls is a small club but they were the best! a big thank you to the guys out there. they are sweeties and some of the best damn cooks around! i had a ball there.
then we went to the pleasant hills club. they have their very own duck pin bowling alley. i hadn't seen duck pins since i was a kid. that brought back a lot of memories.
last stop was homestead pa. i've been in homestead lots of times. it's not all that far away but i hadn't ever been in the club there. it's very nice indeed and i met 2 of the regular members there. i forget their names but they were very nice and we had a great conversation about menopause(yep, you didn't read it wrong, menopause)
now, if you've never met me in person you might have a few questions about how and why 2 men who are absolute strangers would feel it o.k. to ask me personal questions like that concerning menopause and their wives BUT i have always had people either ask me odd things or tell me things that they might hesitate to tell their doctor or their priest. so, i just answer as best as i can. it's been like that since i was young. i take it as a compliment of sorts but it does tend to make some people look at me as weird.
on a small aside here. the burgettstown owls even tho small and rural are enlightened enough that the changed their by-laws to include women as full voting members, good going guys!

anyway, i just had a blast. i sat near the front on the right hand side next to a window. i saw wonderful farmland and we drove by raccoon state park we went thru some small towns that had some great homes that were well over a hundred years old. i love to look at interesting homes. i saw all different types of horses and cattle and even a buffalo! too cool! that even impressed the rest of the members who thought i was strange for enjoying the ride so much because they were looking forward more to the clubbing.

the "cool kids" were in the back of the bus with a radio and "coolers" and got happier and stranger as the day wore into night. "ahem!"

all in all it was grand fun. i even danced around to the jukeboxes at the last 2 stops!

so, that was my grand adventure. hope you enjoyed reading about it.
i forgot my camera. i was pissed about that. hopefully i can get some copies from friends that remembered theirs.

As a happy bus rider, I applaud your fun day!
When I ride the bus around town, which isn't often for a variety of both good and bad reasons, I find myself looking at everything as if for the first time. Then I just get relaxed and let someone else drive. It feels good.
And now, the city announced that it will make our little bus service free of charge for the summer as an experiment. This should be way cool!

i used to ride the bus every day years and years ago but i was never in a travel bus. the view was just great.
we don't have the happiest public transportation system around here now. shame, we really need one.
i'd love to see them bring back trains. we have the tracks already, just not pubic trains.

Yeah, our politicians are wangling and wheedling and perhaps one day in my near future, Amtrak will go from Omaha through Iowa to Chicago.
Yay-men. Finally, the train from (near) Ames to my kinda town!

we have tons of track. it wouldn't take much to get passenger service up and running.

the bus service keeps raising their rates and cutting services and the working poor can't keep up. lots of people work late and odd shifts and have no way to get to or from work .
