You Love to Talk About Ideas

You like your conversations to be deep and meaningful. You are not a big fan of small talk.

You are open to all sorts of conversation topics, especially if they are unique or interesting. You love it when a conversation takes you somewhere unexpected.

You will talk about anything, even if it's controversial or weird. You aren't shy about speaking your mind.

You may shock people with what you're willing to talk about, but at least it's more interesting than discussing the weather.

the little black female squirrel hasn't been here for the last 2 days. this squirrel has been here for about a week. it's red- but way more sulfer-ish yellow than the picture shows and a bit larger than the usual greys that are the most abundant here.

i'm hoping the little black one is o.k. and perhaps was just passing thru.

Dear sherry,

Thanks to so many of you for contacting Chairman Conyers Friday and thanking him for helping to save our democracy. His office was overwhelmed with calls and e-mails. One of his staffers said that it was "like working the phones at a telethon."

I've been thinking a little more about the Supreme Court's decision. This ruling gives foreign powers more rights than U.S. citizens. Imagine that! Aramco, a corporation owned by the Saudi Arabian government, will have enormously more influence in choosing your senator than you will. That's one thing that I meant when I said that "if we do nothing, you can kiss this country goodbye."

This will not stand. It cannot stand. There are too many Americans who love this country and won't allow it to happen. And you are one of them.

We are making a movement. If you have a moment, please forward this email to five of your friends, and ask them to sign our petition at www.SaveDemocracy.net. And then a mighty voice will rise up from the land.

Courage,

Blue Gal: Michelle Malkin's silence on the grenade launcher thief. Doesn't she care about terrorism?

Blue Gal: Michelle Malkin's silence on the grenade launcher thief. Doesn't she care about terrorism?
AN E-MAIL FROM MY CUZ:

I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I'm too old to track down terrorists.
You can't be older than 42 to join the military. They've got the whole thing
bass-ackwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at
least 40.

For starters: Researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on killing the enemy.

Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some asshole who desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for a while.

An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10 a..m. Old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell. Besides, 'I'm tired and can't
sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical
so-and-so.

If captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would be easier for old guys.. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food. We've also developed an appreciation for guns. We've been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I've been in combat and didn't see a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after basic training.

Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too. I've never heard of anyone outrunning a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start up a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.

These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way.

Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple of million pissed off old farts with attitudes and automatic weapons who know that their best years are already behind them.
had a nice relaxing night last night. feeling pretty good. the sun is shining. the cold weather comes back next week so i'm eating up this sunshine today!

well, it's friday babies.

my big plans include a hot shower and some new books i got in the mail today.
i love when i earn new books on points free!

i tend now to skip from between 2 or more books at one time.
a side effect from the reglan that i have almost become accustomed to, almost!

i got myself a book on the inquisition by toby green and emotional awareness (a conversation between the dalai lama and paul ekman, phd.)

i also got a fun little book of photographs of all the odd places people have seen religious figures, including the infamous grilled cheese virgin mary. amazing imaginations people have!

AND, of course, i had to get, the intimate sex lives of famous people.
not as bawdy as the title suggests- more informative. who knew ayn rand was that odd?? not me. sort of put a different perspective on works like atlas shrugged.

informative and fun reading all in 1 book! ; )

so babies- go out and have some fun and i'll do a little fun reading for you all.

might even see Zeus in a empty bag of 100 calorie cheetoes!

yes- i keep posting about this but it's a very very scary thing.
The Black Bra
(told by a woman)

I had lunch with two of my unmarried friends. One is engaged, one is a
mistress and I have been married for twenty plus years.

We were chatting about our relationships and decided to amaze our men by
greeting them at the door wearing a black bra, stiletto heels and a mask
over our eyes. We agreed to meet in a few days to exchange notes.
Here's how it all went.

My engaged friend:

The other night when my boyfriend came over he found me with a black leather
bodice, tall stilettos and a mask.

He saw me and said, 'You are the woman of my dreams. I love you.' Then we
made passionate love all night long.

The mistress:

Me too! The other night I met my lover at his office and I was wearing a
raincoat, under it only a black bra, heels and a mask over my eyes. When I
opened the raincoat he didn't say a word but he started to tremble and we
had wild sex all night.

Then I had to share my story:

When my husband came home I was wearing a black bra, black stockings,
stilettos and a mask over my eyes..

When he came in the door and saw me he said,'What's for dinner, Batman?'

"There is an evil which ought to be guarded against in the indefinite accumulation of property from the capacity of holding it in perpetuity by corporations. lovely day-

made me feel energetic so i gathered up 4 more bags of things for goodwill including purses and shoes.
i take good care of my things and, frankly, since i don't go out much anymore there's no reason to have very nice purses and hardly ever worn shoes in my closet. my feet and back are too sore to wear the 3 inch heels anyway. so, i bagged them all up tho i did keep a luscious pair of lilac suede high heels just to look at and remember different times.

Supreme Court Rejects Campaign Spending Limits

The Supreme Court has ruled that corporations may spend
freely to support or oppose candidates for president and
Congress, easing decades-old limits on their participation in
federal campaigns.

The court on Thursday overturned a 20-year-old ruling that
said corporations can be prohibited from using money from
their general treasuries to pay for campaign ads. The
decision almost certainly will also allow labor unions to
participate more freely in campaigns and threatens similar
limits imposed by 24 states.

The justices also struck down part of the landmark
McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that barred union- and
corporate-paid issue ads in the closing days of election
campaigns.

To the melody of "Sheng Sheng Man"

I pine and peak
And questless seek
Groping and moping to linger and languish
Anon to wander and wonder, glare, stare and start
Flesh chill'd
Ghost thrilled
With grim dart
And keen canker of rankling anguish.

Sudden a gleam
Of fair weather felt
But fled as fast -- and the ice-cold season stays.
How hard to have these days
In rest or respite, peace or truce.
Sip upon sip of tasteless wine
Is of slight use
To counter or quell
The fierce lash of the evening blast.

The wild geese -- see --
Fly overhead
Ah, there's the grief
That's chief -- grief beyond bearing,
Wild fowl far faring
In days of old you sped
Bearing my true love's tender thoughts to me.
Lo, how my lawn is rife with golden blooms
Of bunched chrysanthemums --
Weary their heads they bow.
Who cares to pluck them now?
While I the casement keep
Lone, waiting, waiting for night
And, as the shades fall
Upon broad leaves, sparse rain-drops drip.
Ah, such a plight
Of grief -- grief unbearable, unthinkable.

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud

by William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee;
A poet could not be but gay,
In such a jocund company!
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
GUESS WHAT????

i just had a black squirrel at my feeder! TOO COOL!

THANK A SOLDIER CAMPAIGN

A Spork in the Drawer: Onward, Christian Soldiers!

(i think this post shows us a very bad use of scripture and i agree with the

article below)

The concept and practice of religious freedom in the United States Armed Forces date back to the earliest days of this nation. The United States Constitution outlines the basic concept of religious freedom as understood by Americans in the Bill of Rights. More specifically, the First Amendment to the Constitution specifies that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. Or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”

All branches of the United States military are afforded the same rights to religious freedom as are American civilians. However, members of the Armed Forces willingly surrender on a temporary basis certain free exercise rights when it impinges on military discipline and the successful completion of a military objective. This guarantee of religious freedom is codified for the Armed Forces in Title 10, United States Code (USC), sections 3073, 3547, 5142, and 8067. Free exercise of religious freedom for military personnel is further detailed in Department of Defense Directive (DODD) 1300.17, “Accommodation of Religious Practices Within the Military Services,” which describes the commander’s responsibility to provide for religious accommodation.

Codes and directives notwithstanding, the free exercise of religious freedom in the military has, by and large, followed the mores of American society in general. That is, as the understanding of free exercise expanded outside the military, so did it expand within the U.S. Armed Forces. This history of the growing embrace of religious pluralism can perhaps best be seen in the expansion of the Chaplaincy, whose role it is to provide for the free expression of religious belief by members of the Armed Forces.

For example, not until the war with Mexico in 1846 were Roman Catholics incorporated into the chaplaincy corps. Until then, only Protestants served as chaplains, a situation that put the United States at a propaganda disadvantage when fighting Catholic Mexico. In 1862, “Christian” was stricken from regulations governing the appointment of chaplains by recognized religious denominations to allow for the appointment of Jewish chaplains. This change was brought about as a result of a request made to President Abraham Lincoln by the Board of Delegates of American Israelites.

During World War II, Greek Orthodox chaplains were authorized to minister to members of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and in 1987, the Department of Defense registered the Buddhist Churches of America as an ecclesiastical endorsing agency, thus opening the door for Buddhist chaplains. In 1993, the first Muslim chaplain was added by the Army - yet another sign of America’s growing religious diversity and the recognition that it is the Armed Forces’ Constitutional responsibility to meet the free expression needs of those in its ranks who hold minority religious views.

Religious freedom takes on an additional importance in the current international environment, where religious motivations are an increasing rationale for waging conflict. At a time when the United States is encouraging greater religious freedom in Muslim nations, it is imperative upon America to show by example that religious pluralism is a viable and preferred option. Any sign of hypocrisy in Unites States policy, official or otherwise, toward the free exercise of religion within the military makes it more difficult to convince others to follow our nation’s chosen path.

MRFF’s role is to ensure that our government does indeed adhere to the spirit as well as the letter of the Constitution; that it leads by example. The next chapter in the never-ending struggle to expand religious freedom in the military is being written, and MRFF is playing a critical part in the effort. A watchdog’s role requires constant vigilance.
