i just saw the cutest dog, oh my yes!
i've written of my dogs, well, not mine anymore
but anyway, i miss them, i love dogs!
anyway, i was out in my front yard looked up and
a lady was being pulled down my street by a huge newfie.
the newfie was a sweetie, never met one that wasn't
but the other dog was the one that tugged at my heart.
she was this little tiny tank of a dog.a french bulldog.
one of those dog breeds
that smile!
this little lady, smiled and snorted and ran up to me
as fast as her
little legs could run. i dropped down and petted her
and told her how pretty she was! it was a wonderful few
moments for me. she didn't want to leave, not even to
follow her newfie friend. she finally turned round
and headed off and the odd thing, her name is the same
as one of my boxers. bittersweet moment. s

i love this movie
so i'm posting this
still from it.

do yourself a favor and
watch it. HARVEY

i think you'll love it too. s

You Are a Red Flower

A red flower tends to represent power,
seduction, and desire.
At times, you are loving like a red tulip. And at other times,
you're very enthusiastic, like a bouvardia. And more than you wish,
your passion is a bit overwhelming, like a red rose.

"I prefer to be a dreamer among the humblest, with visions to be realized, than lord among those without dreams and desires."

an update on my mom.
i thank everyone for their prayers and good vibes.
she is home from the hospital with a whole set of rules
and meds and restrictions BUT she is home and already
getting feisty about the rules, god knows what the bill
for her meds will be. my niece is picking them up for
my mom. one day at a time says me!

today, the sun is shining.
it is shining in my heart as well.
this morning has been a morning
of delight. big happy surprises.

my friend charlie tee wrote a beautiful post
about my 1 year anniversary on his blog

http://diffrentstrokes.blogspot.com/2006/06/words-as-music.html

he honors me. he honors me more with his friendship.
some day perhaps i will get to meet him and his wonderful wife vickie!

this blog of mine has been a lifesaver for me
and i hope people have found my poems and my ramblings interesting
and maybe even a few touched someone. THAT would please me most of all.

thank you, to all of you that stopped by or came to stay. sherry

i decided to go back to the
beginning of this little blog o mine
and see just how many of my poems i had posted
because in july i will have had this going for one year!
hard for me to believe it. harder still when i realized
how many people have visited and how many
still drop in or write. i've met some wonderfully
interesting people thru blogging and maybe someday
we may meet in person.

anyway as of today, i have posted 225 poems of my own
and have had the privilege of hosting many fine
poets, editors, performance artists, musicians and playwrights
all of whom have been kind enough to let me post
some of their works. i thank them. i consider them friends
i hope they think of me that way as well. they are all so talented
i am honored they include me as one of theirs. s
felt like passing on this joke:

A cowboy was herding his cows in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of a dust cloud towards him.
The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and YSL tie, leans out the window and asks the cowboy, "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, will you give me a calf?"
The cowboy looks at the man, obviously a yuppie,
then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?"
The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his Cingular RAZR V3 cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet,
where he calls up a GPS satellite navigation system to get an exact fix
on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite
that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo. The young man
then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an
image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany. Within seconds, he
receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed
and the data stored. He then accesses a MS-SQL database through an
ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry and,
after a few minutes, receives a response.
Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report
on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer
and finally turns to the cowboy and
says, "You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves
"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," saysthe cowboy.
He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on
amused as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.
Then the cowboy says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell
you exactly what yourbusiness is, will you give me back my calf ?"
The young man thinks about it for a second and then says,
"Okay,why not?" You're a Congressman for the U.S. Government",
says the cowboy."Wow! That's correct,"
says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"
"No guessing required." answered the cowboy.
"You showed up here even though nobody called you;
you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question
I never asked. You tried to show me how much smarter than me you are;
and you don't know a thing about cows...Now give me back my dog."
mechanical dreams

machines roar, they scream
vibrate the dream
metal teeth dig into my psyche
tear chunks loose
breaking roots free to dangle

dying even as they fall to a ground
scarred by the force of nightmares
there is nothing left save my heart
wet and muddy and still.
hi all, if you can, send happy thoughts and or prayers
whatever faith you are or none, happy thoughts work wonders too
for my mother who is in the hospital
and to my father who has been quite ill for years and is at home.

thanks, s

the scholarship awards and luncheon
went very well. it was nice to meet the winners
and their families. they each read their essays to the
members of the club that were there and one girl's mother read hers
because she was already at orientation at her college.
they were all very good essays and i think we made good choices
tho there were some very good applicants and i wish we had more
money to give away.

and, there was CAKE! oh, i like me some cake, i do! ; )

bow wow

i always knew
you loved your dogs more
than you ever loved me
that their fur was softer
to the touch than mine
their devotion more readily
seen and love returned.
in point of fact
eagerly given
rolling over on their backs
submissively offering up bellies
legs spread wide for a rub.
you often pointed this out with
a laugh that really wasn't.
i always knew
how could i not?
you cried when one or the other
came down with some canine problem
paid the vet bills without complaint
yet left me to fend for myself
in stitches with a laugh
that wasn't.
i thought i'd share a few lines that came to me
last night. the beginnings of a poem to show how it goes
for me when i write.

memories that used to be
strong enough to leave your scent
on my skin
fall away like petals from roses
gone without the sun too long

this sunday is the annual scholarship luncheon
i always worry, hoping it turns out well for the kids!!
when we give out the awards and
the checks to the winners. i am very proud
of these scholarships. i am proud that i was invited
to join the committee a few years ago. it takes
a bit of planning and work to pull together the
money for the awards and to decide the winners from all
the essays submitted, but i really believe in these
awards. they go to the applicants that have demonstrated
the drive to succeed, a positive work ethic and service to
their communities, not grades. not everyone can be an
honor student, but anyone can have a positive attitude and
a good work ethic if they choose to make the effort. s

went to" half priced books" today.
traded in 2 boxes of old paperbacks
that my mother was done with and got myself
3 poetry books that look like i'll enjoy.

THE RAG AND BONE SHOP OF THE HEART
anthology
THE KGB BAR
BOOK OF POEMS
and
WHAT BOOK
buddha poems from beat to hiphop

i was caught by the titles. i've been working on a book
of barroom poetry myself, buddha, well, that was an easy
choice and the anthology looks wonderful so, i added to the
cash from the used paperback romances and mysteries from
my mom's and bought myself some enjoyment and maybe
some education. s

June 21, 2006The Sun's Peak - from my daily OM
Summer Solstice

On the longest day of the year, the sun, which has on the days preceding seemed to rise higher and higher into the sky, reaches its zenith and rises no more. This day, which in the Northern Hemisphere can occur between the 20th and 23rd of June, marks the start of summer and is known as the summer solstice. From time immemorial, the coming of summer's light and warmth has been a time of gladness and celebration. In June, the snows had long since melted, the ground had thawed, the first fruits were ripening on their vines, and Mother Nature had once again renewed herself. Though most of us have turned away from our agricultural heritage, the summer solstice remains a time of new beginnings and life-enriching endings. It is the day the sun reaches the peak of its power as well as the day that heralds the shorter days that eventually bring with them autumn's chills. For ancient peoples of the Americas and Europe, the summer solstice was a particularly joyous day-and one auspicious for those seeking year-long luck, fertility, abundance, and prosperity. Men and women on two continents would gather to pay tribute to the sun's magnificence, to pray for a bountiful harvest, and to bolster the sun's energy with bonfires and fireworks. Today, the summer solstice represents an optimal time to reflect upon the blessings we have received in seasons past and visualize the new bounties we hope to receive in the season just beginning to flourish. At noon, when the sun is at its highest point, we can pay reverence to its incredible strength and its ability to create life while also musing on the impermanence of life as represented by the impermanence of the season. You can reestablish your innate connection to nature on the summer solstice by spending time outdoors; following the sun's procession as the day passes; burning sun oils such as orange, be!nzion, or juniper; or decorating an altar with solar images, summer greens, or colorful blossoms. Just as the summer solstice is symbolic of agricultural growth, so is it symbolic of personal growth. It is a wonderful time to nurture your potential as you would nurture a tiny seedling and let your creative energy express itself fully. On the summer solstice, you may feel compelled to emulate the noontime sun and be at one with the world around you or to let your inner brilliance shine forth at full strength, if only for a single day. Your life, like the seasons, follows a cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, and summers, whether literal or figurative, can always be celebrated.
HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE

let's dance and raise a glass, people! s

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.

Robert Frost quotes (American poet, 1874-1963)

"Take away love and our earth is a tomb. "

Robert Browning

June 16, 2006
Providing Support Fathers
The idea of fatherhood is both personal and universal. We all have ideal concepts surrounding fatherhood, and we also have our real fathers-fathers who were there or not there for us, fathers who provided financial support for our families or failed to do so, fathers who loved or neglected us, fathers who were our role models or gave us someone to rebel against. Our father may have been there for us sometimes and not there for us at other times. The process of reconciling the ideal father that resides in our minds with the father that we actually have is a fertile one that can teach us a great deal about ourselves. Our relationship with our father will often affect our relationships with the other men who will come into our lives. You may have learned to behave and think in certain ways because those were the ways that your father acted and thought. Certain talents that you possess may have been passed down to you by your father. There also may be personal issues that you inherited by virtue of who your father is. Understanding how your relationship with your father has influenced you can help you better understand yourself and the life that you have created. In a time when mothers, the sacred feminine, and female energy are being honored, it is important not to forget the importance of fathers. Father energy and mother energy are the two complementary energies necessary to bring a healthy human being to fruition in the world. Many of the ideas surrounding fathers are changing in the wake of more modern parenting styles and the more egalitarian roles that are evolving between the sexes. More men are embodying the mother energy these days, and a woman can provide father energy for her children. Either way, we can all benefit from thinking about our fathers and how they have influenced who we've become and the ways that we walk through this world. Let us remember to honor our fathers.

this was written in 04, changed a bit.

thup

straight lipped
thin arms cross breasts
pressed flat by middle age
i'm remembering
again

the film clips of my past
thup thup from reel to reel
turning inside of me

1972, the 6 o'clock news
too damn tired to get up
even tho i really want
to change the channel
so swollen with you
i can't see my feet

same old/same old on the screen
thup thup thup
green jungle grasses flattened by
the helicopters. green fatigues
camo hiding most of the gore
grey faced boys on stretchers
thup thup thup

you kicking inside me
thup thup thup
brings a silent prayer
please,GOD, a girl please

i'm remembering, straight lipped
a girl with brown hair
brown fatigues
brown sand on the television screen
thup thup thup
a girl
she was a girl, thup thup...

took it and reworked it a little to let it

mornings wonder day #2

curled on my side
dawn lighting pale blue
on white walls
i glance then fix on
my bare forearm and hand.
look closer, trace veins with my gaze
note the coloring the
slight pulse beat at the wrist.

i try to recall how this arm looked

at 16

20

i couldn't

but i could see it

at 4

the small curled white fingers thin nails

smooth

the ridges of my fingerprints

delicate, soft

why why was the child so easily seen

the young adult lost?

unsettled i turned to the wall.

June 14, 2006An Unconditional Gift

Kindness

In the quest to create a gentler, more loving world, kindness is the easiest tool we can use. Though it is easy to overlook opportunities to be kind, our lives are replete with situations in which we can be helpful, considerate, thoughtful, and friendly to loved ones and associates, as well as strangers. The touching, selfless acts of kindness that have the most profoundly uplifting effects are often the simplest: a word of praise, a gentle touch, a helping hand, a gesture of courtesy, or a smile. Such small kindnesses represent an unconditional, unrestricted form of love that we are free to give or withhold at will. When you give the gift of kindness, whether in the form of assistance, concern, or friendliness, your actions create a beacon of happiness and hope that warms people's hearts. The components of kindness are compassion, respect, and generosity. Put simply, kindness is the conscious act of engaging others in a positive way without asking whether those individuals deserve to be treated kindly. All living beings thrive on kindness. A single, sincere compliment can turn a person's entire world around. Holding a door or thanking someone who has held a door for you can inspire others to practice politeness and make already kind individuals feel good about their efforts. Smiling at people you meet-even those who make you feel like frowning-can turn a dreary encounter into a delightful one, for both of you. Every kind act has a positive influence on the individual who has performed said act as well as on the recipient, regardless of whether the act is acknowledged. Kindness brings about more kindness and slowly but surely takes a positive toll on humanity. Weaving the thread of kindness into your everyday life can be as easy as choosing to offer a hearty "Good morning" and "Good night" to your coworkers or neighbors, a stranger on the street, or the grocery store clerk. When you commit a kind act, you are momentarily disconnected from your ego and bonded with the individual who has benefited from your kindness. Being fully present in each moment of your life facilitates kindness as it increases your awareness of the people around you. You'll discover that each act of kindness you engage in makes the world, in some small way, a better place.
today was the birthday of one of my pets.
he's been gone a long time, but we had him
while my daughter was growing up. he
was a little mixed breed, mother was a cocker, dad, well
they were pretty sure he was the amorous poodle next door
(frenchmen, what else!)
had him for 16 years. funny how i can still remember his birthday.
we always had cake for any of our dogs on their birthday. they always
got a present as well. i grew up with that tradition and so, i still do it.
my daughter always enjoyed celebrating and besides, it was a great
reason to have cake!

now, i have bob. cats won't eat cake, but on his birthday, i'll be sure to
get him some treats and maybe a ball or a new collar. s

i doubt people would envy much about me but hey, this ain't bad! s

People Envy Your Compassion

You have a kind heart and an unusual empathy for all living creatures.
You tend to absorb others' happiness and pain.People envy your
compassion, and more importantly, the connections it helps you build.
And compassionate as you are, you feel for them

does that make me sappy??? people often mistake kindness
for weakness. they are wrong. s

Integrating Our Many Selves Sum Of Our PartsHuman beings are multidimensional creatures. Our identity is made up of the sum total of our many traits and values and our character. Each of us possesses within us many different selves.
There is the adult part of ourselves and the childlike spirit that resides in each one of us. There is our masculine side and our feminine side.
There is the hard worker in us, the artist, the parent, and the caretaker.
All of these selves combined form a well-rounded, complex person. Not all of these different aspects of who we are blend easily with each other, however, and some of them may even conflict with or oppose one another.
When a person's different parts clash, such as the self that is our childlike aspect and the self that is our responsible adult, we often end up compartmentalizing or suppressing one of these aspects to ease the conflict. While this may make us feel better in the short run, we would be better off finding a way for these two selves to coexist peacefully inside u!
Though some of our selves may be dominant while others rarely assert themselves, attempts to suppress one or more of these different aspects can leave us feeling that our identity has been splintered. Being able to successfully integrate our various selves can be as simple as accepting and embracing each one.
It may also be necessary to reframe the way you see them. The immature self that you ridicule can become a valued and accepted part of you when redefined as your more playful aspect. Journaling can help you acknowledge and understand the different parts that make up your identity. When your many selves blend together to form an integrated individual, you will feel changed. You will no longer feel pulled in multiple directions, and you will never again have to deny any part of yourself. You become a complete person-familiar and comfortable with the many selves that make up the person you are.

“I love you, and

because I love you,

I would sooner have you hate me for telling you the truth than adore me for telling you lies.”

i think most of his quotes need to be read.
"I love quotations because it is a joy to find thoughts one might have, beautifully expressed with much authority by someone recognizably wiser than oneself. "

it's hard work editing my stuff for me! s

in reality, if you look closely, he's faking

sat. morn.

chilly, but sunny.
have a surprise b'day party to go to tonight for
a very nice guy.
he was in WWII, was in the group that liberated/rescued
the men that had been on the batann death march.
i had dinner at his home once. he showed me pictures that they took
when they rescued the men.

war, any war, no matter the reasons, well
it just feels like a lead weight, knowing
the things that human beings are capable of.

isn't it odd, that we can be as a species, so noble at times and yet
so deliberately cruel?

anyway, this man came back, worked the mines, raised a family
cared for a dying wife and now, he still swims every morning at the Y
and comes out every night to have 1 or 2 drinks(no more)
says hello to his friends and drives home!

i'm looking forward to stopping down to wish him a happy birthday later! s

chinese folklore says that invisible red threads connect a newborn's

spirit to all the people that will be important to his/her life and to

the ancestors as well. as the child grows, the threads shorten to bring

these people closer together. this is mai's poem.

red thread

child of gold

not born of my daughter's body

born instead, of her heart.

eyes of midnight

ashes of rose smiles

a cherub's mouth that

weaves a family of man.

child of the orient

your red thread binds us to

ancestors by fate and love

from the heavens across time

and continents to us

your family of the heart.

child of joy

birthed of our spirits

through distance and time

our love runs through you

instead of blood.

child of america

red silk shining in the

patchwork quilt of home.

you will add your own strengths

your beauty unique to the piece.

child of man

we are all one

a family tied by threads of love

you bless us all

child of the universe

child of ours.

tomorrow my granddaughter will
have been here for 1 year!

she is 2 years old and the most wonderful
little person. she is bright and beautiful and
smart and strong and feisty. yes, she is a
gift to all of us and we are lucky to have her!

i was hoping to have her poem ready
but i'm still working on it.

maybe later. s

and i am happy!

my hair is short and i hate when
it starts to grow over my ears.
she had to take over 2 inches off!
seems like a small thing, a haircut, but
it's the small things in life that often
make me feel happy! s

i had this photo, shows me with my hair just cut.
i don't like pictures of myself but some friends said
they liked this one so it's for them.

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

Oscar Wilde quotes (Irish Poet, Novelist, Dramatist and Critic, 1854-1900
Billy Preston has passed on.
damn it, so many are going.

59 years old. he will be missed! s
just a teeny little bitch fest here, my hair appt. was canceled,
actually she wasn't even there. god, i hate that. s
it's a beautiful day here.
i'm finally going to get my hair cut later today. can't wait
i resemble moe from the 3 stooges!!!!

i planted 2 tomato plants. i got them free from a man that was
giving them away last night. how sweet to give them to strangers.

i'm not sure if my groundhog will let them grow in peace, but
just planting them, smelling the leaves, well, it made me smile
at some memories. s

just a personal note on this "666" stuff

this is America, you can believe whatever you choose
but me, i do not believe in a devil. i am not a literalist
and i think we have far too many evil human beings in this
world to be worried about 666 and the people that make money
by scaring the crap out of good people when they write books and
try to convince people that "they" can tell you, guide you, in
finding heaven and avoiding hell.

how about just following that good old "golden rule?"
most religions have it, slightly different wording, but
the same meaning.

save the frights for rollercoasters and such.
try a little empathy and compassion on today. 666, indeed!
He that has no fools, knaves, nor beggars in his family, was begot by a flash of lightning.
Thomas Fuller quotes (British Clergyman and Writer, one of the most prolific authors of the 17th century. 1608-1661)

" a product of steel and coal, truck drivers, immigrants, sinners, saints and regular folk. "

me!

this was my grandparent's house.

i posted it for Q, who asked about my parent's

wedding photo. it was taken in the garden of this house.

i loved this house. i loved my grandparents.

they sold this house and moved off of the hill

because neither drove and it was easier to walk

on the flat of the town.

this house was bulldozed

when i was a junior in high school.

it was in perfect condition, but it was sold to a man

that put up one of those tacky 6 apartment buildings

with the tiny concrete slab decks and iron railings!

my mother cried watching her childhood home

being torn into pieces. one of the few times

she ever cried over anything. s

there is something very ironic in
the fact that the bigots in d.c. are
trying to pass an amendment to prevent
loving couples from marrying and the fact that
today is my parent's 58th wedding anniversary.

oh my yes, indeedy! s

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

to my mom and dad.
Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen

Leonardo da Vinci

i left the link because i think it's good to read quotes now and then.
just to find out the thoughts behind the person and to see if you
agree or disagree with a person that you might have always admired or
someone you disliked. it can be an interesting thing. s

fallen

there's a halo under the bed
half hidden by dust bunnies, they
soften the glow.

rumpled sheets, damp
linen, scented with sex
blessed

with holy water tears
another angel
fallen.

the new logo from my old

alma mater.

much different from when i went there! s
sunday afternoon. i have chicken wings marinating in the fridge, honey, garlic
soy sauce, olive and sesame oils, ketchup, salt and pepper. small red potatoes
are boiling on the stove for potato salad and a load of laundry is in the dryer.

my granddaughter was here earlier while my daughter was at work and my son-in-law
went to get some furniture moved.

we sang and marched around the place and read books( i read, she turned the pages )
she had big fun with a container of dry cheerios(i will be finding escaped ones under the furniture for days, i know!) she had mac and cheese for lunch and was getting sleepy(naptime)
when her dad came to pick her up.

took about 20 minutes to clean up. bob actually came out from his hiding place to start to make friends with mai. he wouldn't let her touch him(and she ALMOST bopped him with a pinwheel)
but i think it's a beginning! s

i loved this quote!

"We are, each of us angels with only one wing; and we can only fly by embracing one another."

Luciano de Crescenzo
a bunch of us took our cars
(yes, funny that i belong to a car club and don't drive often or far)
to a reunion of a grade school, long gone, but fondly remembered
by the senior citizens that attended it those many years ago.
we get invited every june and every year we go, steve(hollo) cooks
hotdogs and sometimes deer meat as well. this year he had smoked trout
to go along with the hot dogs.everyone brings something to add to their little picnic and we say hi, look at all the old photos they bring. they tell stories of the school and the coal mines and we get our group photos taken by a sweet and feisty lady named mary, who calls us "chicky baby" whenever she needs one of us to go do or see something!
every year tho, there are less and less of the old grade schoolers there. that's sad
but they have a true sense of community, something that was lacking in the big school district i attended or the town i grew up in. there's good and bad i think, in a small community like that. you live, with however you were labeled as or thought of in school and can not break free of that, for good or bad, no matter what the realities of your life since then. s

i wrote this in 05. i submitted it for c&c to my
workgroup. we never could decide if it should be
a short story or a prose poem or put into a more
classic poem form. so, i put it aside and still it just seems
to want to be just as it is. a "first thought, best thought" thing.
so, here it is.

" you can never go down the drain."
mr. rogers

i bought myself a silver i.d. bracelet
the silver as thin as a communion wafer
with mr. roger's words scratched on it.

mr. rogers, sweatered, sneakers in hand
calm voice assuring little kids that
no, they can't be sucked down a drain
along with the bubbles and
the pee they let loose with
giggles and wide grins.

silvered links around my wrist now
i thought that if i remembered that truth, now
if i couldn't be sucked down that drain
everything else would be,
could be safe and simple.

mr. rogers never ever promised that, but
i wanted to believe that
needed to believe it was so.

i wear the bracelet
look at it fifty times a day or more
hearing mr. rogers inside my head
soothing me, almost letting me
feel the bubbles tickling my nose
loved and safe and clean, once more.

mr. rogers was a great guy that understood
kids and childish fears but he never knew about
or perhaps chose not to talk about how

someday most of us would grow up and
that for most of us going down that damn drain
would be the least of our worries
that for most of us

all of our giggles and wide grins
went down the drain along with our piss
years ago.

these are some of the oaks
behind the house.

i love oaks, but they are messy trees.
it's said they are sacred trees. i can understand that
sacred and messy.

now over at LSquared, he can really take great photos
his latest of trees and blue skies had me wanting to post
my trees.

one of my favorite photos tho was posted by http://olfroth.blogspot.com/

it was a black and white photo of cups on a rock. s
italian lover's song

my blood sings the lyrics
a song of hot blue sky days
starshine mandolin nights
sweet with the scent of basil

warm flesh the melody
sounds of jade green seas
a flash of silvered scales
in dark wet nets.

the dance of a tiny gold crucifix
between my breasts
warm breath, rumpled linen sheets
tangled in sweat shined legs

an ageless timeless sound
that weaves life itself
in each note played.

ti amo.
