In case you haven't connected the dots... Putin controls the largest oil company in Russia. He made a 500 Billion dollar deal with the CEO of Exxon Mobil. Obama put sanctions in place which stopped that deal. Russia then hacked into our government in order to get Trump elected. When the CIA told Congress this in September (James Comey was also in that meeting), Mitch McConnell refused to tell the American people, blackmailing Obama saying he would frame it as playing partisan politics during the election. Comey released the infamous no-information letter. Mitch McConnell's wife was picked for Trump's cabinet. Wonder why our President has been so quick to dismiss the CIA's findings?.........Here are some facts : Decide for yourselves 1) Trump owes Blackstone/ Bayrock group a reported $100 million to $560 million dollars (one of his largest debtors and the primary reason he won't reveal his tax returns) 2) Blackstone is owned wholly by Russian billionaires, who owe their position to Putin and have made billions from their work with the Russian government. 3) Other companies that have borrowed from Blackstone have claimed that owing money to them is like owing to the Russian mob and while you owe them, they own you for many favors. 4) The Russian economy is badly faltering under the weight of its over-dependence on raw materials which as you know have plummeted in the last 2 years leaving the Russian economy scrambling to pay its debts. 5) Russia has an impetus to influence our election to ensure the per barrel oil prices are above $65 ( they are currently hovering around $50) 6) Russia can't affordably get at 80% of its oil reserves and reduce its per barrel cost to compete with America at $45 or Saudi Arabia at $39. With Iranian sanctions being lifted Russia will find another inexpensive competitor increasing production and pushing Russia further down the list of suppliers. As for Iranian sanctions, the 6 countries lifting them allowing Iran to collect on the billions it is owed for pumping oil but not being paid for it. These billions Iran can only get if the Iranian nuclear deal is signed. Trump spoke of ending the deals which would cause oil sales sanctions to be reimposed, which would make Russian oil more competitive. 7) Rex Tillerson (Trump's ex Secretary of State) was the head of ExxonMobil, which is in possession of patented technology that could help Putin extract 45% more oil at a significant cost savings to Russia, helping Putin put money in the Russian coffers to help reconstitute its military and finally afford to mass produce the new and improved systems that it had invented before the Russian economy had slowed so much. 😎 Putin cannot get access to these new cost saving technologies OR outside oil field development money, due to US sanctions on Russia, because of its involvement in Ukrainian civil war. 9) Look for Trump to end sanctions on Russia and to back out of the Iranian nuclear deal, to help Russia rebuild its economy, strengthen Putin and make Tillerson and Trump even richer, thus allowing Trump to satisfy his creditors at Blackstone. 10) With Trump's fabricated hatred of NATO and the U.N., the Russian military reconstituted, the threat to the Baltic states is real. Russia retaking their access to the Baltic Sea from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia and threatening the shipping of millions of cubic feet of natural gas to lower Europe from Scandinavia, allowing Russia to make a good case for its oil and gas being piped into eastern Europe. Sources: Time Magazine, NY Times, The Atlantic, The Guardian UK......phew.....did you make it thru all of that?... Russia’s state-run media channel Russia 24 wants everyone to know that President Donald Trump belongs to Moscow. Responding to reports that Trump told world leaders at the G-7 meeting in Canada last week that Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula is Russian because everyone there speaks Russian, the hosts of the Russian version of 60 Minutes victoriously declared that “Crimea is ours, Trump is ours.” Reported on June 15 2018 . Attending Church via Twitch | Citizenship Revoked | A Trillion Dollar Book Empire

"I like the silent church before the service begins, better than any preaching." – Ralph Waldo Emerson

"I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me." – Ibid.

All the Empty Churches: In 1534 French navigator Jacques Cartier was the first European explorer to discover the St. Lawrence river in present day Quebec, Canada. The founding of Quebec City in 1608 by French explorer Samuel de Champlain marked the beginning of a string of French colonies along the St. Lawrence River. Today Quebec is the second most populous province of Canada, and the only one to have a predominantly French-speaking populous. Catholicism has been the dominant religion in Quebec for over 400 years, so it is no surprise that there are beautiful old churches still found in the province. In the 1950s 95 percent of Quebec's population attended Mass; today that number is only 5 percent. The sharp drop in attendance, along with high maintenance costs, forced heritage groups, architects and the church itself to think of creative ways to preserve historic buildings. Naturally not all buildings could be saved; by April, 547 churches in Quebec had been closed, sold or transformed.

The Notre-Dame-du-Perpetuel-Secours is an imposing Catholic Church in Montreal that has undergone a $3 million renovation, transforming it into the Theatre Paradoxe. It hosts comedic routines, filmed inside a confessional booth, musical events, Zumba lessons, and fetish parties. Some years ago the owners of a local church in Sainte-Elizabeth-de-Warwick transformed it into an upmarket cheese company, but decided to keep a small part of the structure as a functioning chapel for the community. Unfortunately, some residents refused to attend Sunday Mass because they weren't okay with the former nave having been repurposed into a place to store and ripen cheese.

Then there are people who simply prefer to livestream church. Matt Souza is the 27-year-old Richmond, Va. founder of GodSquard Church, a nonprofit organization under the evangelical Assemblies of God denomination. He also happens to be one of 2.6 billion video game players worldwide. From behind a monitor on a desk in his gaming studio, which also serves as his pulpit, Reverend Matt broadcasts a 30-minute sermon on Saturday nights to his scattered congregation via the live-streaming platform Twitch. GodSquad Church is very likely the world's first online-only church for video gamers.

Cokelore. More than a century after the creation of Coca-Cola (the first Coke was consumed in 1886), we're still as much in love with this most famous of soft drinks as our great-grandparents were. Coca-Cola is one of the most successful companies the world has ever known.

Nothing can grow to such prominence in the life of a culture without having rumors and tall tales told about it. So it is with Coca-Cola, a brand and product that has inspired so many legends that folklorists created a special category for them: Cokelore.

Bite the wax tadpole. The story goes that when Coca-Cola first began selling their product in China in 1928, they transliterated its name into a Chinese phrase meaning "bite the wax tadpole." (Mixture)

The pause that refreshes. Have you ever wondered about the "coca" part of Coca-Cola's name? It has long been rumored that the product once contained cocaine? (Mixture)

Worm extractor. Does Coca-Cola coax worms out of pork? Online videos show people pouring Coke onto slices of raw pork to extract any trichinosis larvae that may be in the meat. (False)

Koka Kola Klassic. Artwork from an online protest asking Coca-Cola not to sponsor the 2016 Republican National Convention led some to believe that the company actually sold a "KKK" bottle. (False)

Twinkle in his eye. Did Coca-Cola marketers invent the modern image of Santa Claus as a jolly large fellow in a red-and-white suit? (False)

Rumor Rundown

Bad butter. Is Anchor Butter contaminated with HIV? An old, recurring rumor about a worker adding HIV-infected blood to foods or beverages takes aim -- again -- at a popular brand of butter. (False)

Laminated veggies. Does a "plastic" layer cover romaine lettuce? A viral video purporting to show a woman peeling plastic off lettuce leaves is misleading. (False)

Old story. A prayer request about a 22-month-old child who shot himself in the heart with a nail gun is several years old. (Outdated)

TSA Surveillance Guidelines on Lavatory Use, Sleeping, Sweating Are Bizarre - Memphis Police Department Surveils Black Lives Matter

TSA Surveillance Guidelines on Lavatory Use, Sleeping, Sweating Are Bizarre - Memphis Police Department Surveils Black Lives Matter

The Surveillance State Is Way Weirder Than You Think. Also, More Dangerous.

The TSA might tag you for sleeping on a plane or using the lavatory.

Remember when we all were outraged at the rise of The Surveillance State in the wake of the attacks of September 11, 2001? OK, the outrage was not widespread as a political issue, and it was something of a morning glory that didn't last past the 2004 election, at least in the general populace. Then, it popped again in the context of Edward Snowden and the revelations about the NSA. Old soapboxes were dusted off and put to use again. However, those revelations are now all tangled up with Snowden's flight into the arms of Vladimir Putin, and WikiLeaks' gleeful embrace of the job of fencing stolen information on behalf of the Russian ratfckers, so the outrage cooled once again.

But we are still a people under surveillance, and that surveillance is largely covert, and it involves local and federal law enforcement, and it is now a fact of everyday life, whether we know it or not. For example, from CityLab:

The lawsuit was based on the existence of a "City Hall Escort List" created by Memphis police, at Mayor Jim Strickland's request, and mostly filled with names of Black Lives Matter activists to be flagged by police if ever on City Hall grounds. However, after deposing key police officials and collecting hundreds of pages of documented evidence, ACLU lawyers learned that this was just a fraction of what was going on.

Do tell.

The "City Hall Escort List" not only flagged the names of certain Black Lives Matter-affiliated activists, but it also included "associates in fact"—people connected to those activists via social media, prior arrests, or "often seen at unlawful assemblies with" them.
US-POLITICS-RACISM-MINORITIES-KING

Getty ImagesBRENDAN SMIALOWSKI

Police prepared "joint intelligence briefs," or JIBs, that initially were about protests against police violence in Memphis, but quickly became a dossier of any kind of anti-police violence activity happening across the nation, namely "any of the organizations that arose out of Ferguson" or that were part of the Black Lives Matter network, even it had nothing to do with Memphis. These intel briefings weren't just shared within the police department; they were also shared with Shelby County sheriff and government officials, the county school district, the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Military, the Memphis Light, Gas, & Water municipal utility company, the Tennessee Valley Authority (a regional electricity utility company), and, curiously, the private companies FedEx and Autozone.
The police used "social media collator" software, such as Geofeedia and NC4, to easily search and monitor open-source data and other social media "chatter" concerning protest activities. Police also set up a dummy social media account under the name "Bob Smith" to access information and correspond with people whose social media profiles were private and not accessible to the public. Undercover and plain-clothed officers used this intel to monitor African American-hosted events and activities even if they weren't protests—like flash mob dance rallies. Among the events the police monitored in stealth mode: several black church meetings; a memorial service for Darrius Stewart, a teenager who was shot and killed by a Memphis police officer in 2015; a black-owned food truck festival; and a gathering at a local park where an organization gave out free book bags and school supplies to students.

Of course, it's not like Memphis has a history of this sort of thing, and it's not like this sort of thing ever has had world-historical ramifications.

These operations are questionable enough on their own, but police surveillance of protesters has been forbidden in Memphis since a 1978 consent decree, after the police department was accused of carrying out similar spying functions on civil rights activists dating back to 1968, when Martin Luther King was in the city advocating on behalf of sanitation workers.

That's the local piece, and you have to be a sap to believe that there isn't something similar going on all over the country in various police departments and county sheriff's offices. (You will note the item above about how widely the Joint Intelligence Briefs were shared.) As far as the national government is concerned, The Boston Globe broke a story over the weekend concerning a new tactic adopted by everyone's favorite new agency: the Transportation Safety Administration.

The previously undisclosed program, called "Quiet Skies," specifically targets travelers who "are not under investigation by any agency and are not in the Terrorist Screening Data Base," according to a Transportation Security Administration bulletin in March. The internal bulletin describes the program's goal as thwarting threats to commercial aircraft "posed by unknown or partially known terrorists," and gives the agency broad discretion over which air travelers to focus on and how closely they are tracked.
But some air marshals, in interviews and internal communications shared with the Globe, say the program has them tasked with shadowing travelers who appear to pose no real threat — a businesswoman who happened to have traveled through a Mideast hot spot, in one case; a Southwest Airlines flight attendant, in another; a fellow federal law enforcement officer, in a third. It is a time-consuming and costly assignment, they say, which saps their ability to do more vital law enforcement work.

This, of course, is pure bureaucratic inertia with a very sharp edge. This is a vast agency, already invested with considerable power, doing something simply because it can do it. It's also about the profits of the security industry that has sprung up to service that power, a vital part of which involves various theoreticians and think-tank buckaroos and their Very Big And Important Ideas.

I highly recommend reading the "behavior checklist" that is central to this program, which the Globe helpfully obtained and published. For example, under the heading, SUBJECT WAS ABNORMALLY AWARE OF SURROUNDINGS, we find:

Reversing or changing directions and/or stopping while in transit through the airport.

First of all, in places like airports, aren't we all supposed to be "abnormally aware" of our surroundings—"if you see something, say something" and all that? Now, it seems, the ol' TSA gets us coming and going. Second of all, this particular metric is simply going to kill Cinnabon and other impulse-buy emporia all over the country.

And under, SUBJECT EXHIBITED BEHAVIORAL INDICATORS, we find:

Excessive perspiration, facial flushing, rapid eye blinking, strong body odor.

In whole or in part, this literally describes every person I saw in the concourse the last time I was in O'Hare.

And under, SUBJECT'S APPEARANCE WAS DIFFERENT FROM INFORMATION PROVIDED, we find:

Lost weight, gained weight, graying, balding.

I resemble these remarks.

Also, too, "information provided" by whom, exactly? And for what purpose? Did I linger too long over my lunch order at Panda Express and get tagged by an undercover TSA agent working across the way at Sbarro's?

And under, SUBJECT SLEPT DURING FLIGHT, we find:

Subject slept during most of the flight. Subject slept briefly.

Oh, come the fck on.

And, finally, under GENERAL OBSERVATION, we find:

Used lavatory?

The next time you fly, carry this checklist with you and play a game. Try to determine how many of the people around you would be detained or surveilled under these criteria. And, if somebody on your flight wakes up suddenly and runs for the head, take action immediately.

My god, what a strange place America is.

The Rude Pundit: Note to Democrats: Fuck the White Working Class

The Rude Pundit: Note to Democrats: Fuck the White Working Class

Note to Democrats: Fuck the White Working Class

I'm a very white person. My background is so European, it's painful: Russian, Polish, Swedish, and, in the only nod to a smidge of color, Italian. And myfamily history is pure worker: My father was a trucker. Mom was a secretary. My grandfather was an electrician and my grandmother worked in a factory. I tell you this to prove my bona fides when I say, with no due respect, it's time for Democrats and the left to say, "Fuck the white working class." That doesn't mean neglect white workers. As I said back in November (and repeated in December), "The only way to help the white working class is to abandon the white working class when it comes to trying to get votes." It means that we concentrate on uplifting all people in this country, no matter the skin color, and we stop this bullshit outreach to the very white people who don't understand that it's good for them, too.

It's just pathetic that this keeps coming up again and again, as if Trump voters and the white working class are the only goddamn prize in the electorate. Democrats, we're told, and liberals, especially, have to, got to, must try to get them on board or our victories are hollow and our policies are meaningless.

Thomas Frank, a progressive darling for his books, including What's the Matter with Kansas? (the answer he didn't get around to is the obvious one: racism), asked in his column this weekend for The Guardian, "Can liberals please work out how to win back the working class?" It offers the usual stuff we know, that Democrats should embrace a genuinely liberal platform, that they blew it by not punishing Wall Street back in 2009, and that they embrace the wealthy in ways that alienate the left.

But what's missing is a recognition that the non-white working class is firmly with the Democratic Party. In fact, it's the base that has sustained the Democrats for several elections, and if the policies of the party are accepted by the non-white working class, then you're either saying that non-whites don't know that Democrats are bad for them or you're just fucking privileging white workers as being the only representatives of a class.

Fucking hell, not a single goddamn factory worker voted for Trump because they were sad Barack Obama didn't lock up someone from Goldman Sachs. They voted for him because he was gonna chase out the Mexicans and Muslims and he was gonna teach that Hillary bitch a lesson. It's not that fucking complicated. And it's fucked up that someone as genuinely smart as Frank can't just accept that.

Then, today, in the New York Times (motto: "We will keep publishing dumb shit until someone from West Virginia subscribes"), in one of the most tragically stupid columns I've ever fucking seen (and I've been reading this shit for years), ostensibly liberal writer Margaret Renkl offers advice on "How to Talk to a Racist," subtitled, "White liberals, you're doing it all wrong." You might look at that and think, "Oh, c'mon. That's gotta be a joke."

Nope. Renkl wants us to reason with the unreasonable: "Somehow you need to find enough common ground for a real conversation about race. Very few people are stupid or irredeemably mean. They'll listen to what you have to say if they trust you'll listen to what they have to say back." Look at that shit. It's like she's talking about racists like they're particularly dumb dogs, not adult humans who could, if they wanted, try to find common ground with liberals.

It gets worse. You should, she says, stop and take a breath "when you encounter a person who believes he's merely honoring his ancestors by driving a car with an image of the Confederate battle flag on the tag [or] when a Facebook friend announces that it's disrespectful to take a knee during the national anthem." I'll take a breath if the exhale is me saying, "Racist asshole."

I've said this before and I'll say it again: Why is it just up to liberals? Unlike writers like Renkl, I'm not gonna act like racists are children. I'm gonna treat them like fuckin' grown-ups and not fuckin' patronize them and speak gently so they don't roll on the ground in a tantrum. I'm gonna tell 'em they're fuckin' racist and that racism is objectively wrong and they should be ashamed of their ignorant selves. And if they don't like being made to feel bad for being racist, don't fucking be racist. Now, tell me whatever stupid shit you wanna say about how you have black friends.

Democrats and the left need to get over this obsession with making the white working class happy. Reaching out to them only makes them hate us more. Why do we need them all? There is already a good percentage of them that do vote Democratic because they're also not all racist morons. Those white working class members are pretty sick of the idiots in their demographic, too.

Besides, it ain't like the white working class has a monopoly on rage or morality. Holy Republicans may hammer the Bible like it's their mistress's ass, but your evangelicals haven't got shit on the black church or the enormous growth of Hispanics as part of church congregations. Go get your voters there.

And the rise of women candidates, both non-white and white, as well as LGBT candidates, demonstrates that the future sure as hell ain't the white men that still make up the vast majority of Republican elected officials. The awesome thing about these new candidates is they are coming up with ways to present that liberal, pro-worker agenda as something that is simply common sense. That goes across the board, from Beto O'Rourke in Texas, a white Congressman who is uniting constituencies (mostly not white) in a real shot to take down Ted Cruz, to Jeannine Lee Lake in Indiana, a black woman who won the Democratic nomination in a district that once had Mike Pence representing it. The DNC and the DCCC better get the fuck on board or the party is gonna leave their old asses behind.

Just think: non-white Americans, with an assist from some white Americans, could end up being responsible for changing things to actually make shit better for the white working class. That many of them won't understand it, as they didn't when Barack Obama was getting them health care, is the triumph of the GOP politics of hate and fear and ignorance.

[Note: Yes, in very white places like West Virginia, where Democrats still have a chance, you might have to pander a bit, but the basic message doesn't need to change.]
