went up to the cemetery where my parents are buried. needed to see if their graves were in better condition than last winter! everything was fixed and so we came back home and wrote out a check for a years worth of holiday flowers for them. dad's flag gets put there by a vets group and you aren't allowed to plant flowers at this cemetery. everyone else is buried at another cemetery and we plant flowers there every year.
last year i was very upset at how my parent's graves were. i know in the long run, it doesn't matter. they aren't there but i promised to look after them because it mattered to them!
now, i'm addressing xmas cards.

Nocturne - a poem by Eugene O Neill
The sunset gun booms out in hollow roar
Night breathes upon the waters of the bay
The river lies, a symphony in grey,
Melting in shadow on the further shore.
A sullen coal barge tugs its anchor chain
A shadow sinister, with one faint light
Flickering wanly in the dim twilight,
It lies upon the harbor like a stain.
Silence. Then through the stillness rings
The fretful echo of a seagull's scream,
As if one cried who sees within a dream
Deep rooted sorrow in the heart of things.
The cry that Sorrow knows and would complain
And impotently struggle to express --
Some secret shame, some hidden bitterness --
Yet evermore must sing the same refrain.
Silence once more. The air seems in a swoon
Beneath the heavens' thousand opening eyes
While from the far horizon's edge arise
The first faint silvery tresses of the moon.
The sunset gun booms out in hollow roar
Night breathes upon the waters of the bay
The river lies, a symphony in grey,
Melting in shadow on the further shore.
A sullen coal barge tugs its anchor chain
A shadow sinister, with one faint light
Flickering wanly in the dim twilight,
It lies upon the harbor like a stain.
Silence. Then through the stillness rings
The fretful echo of a seagull's scream,
As if one cried who sees within a dream
Deep rooted sorrow in the heart of things.
The cry that Sorrow knows and would complain
And impotently struggle to express --
Some secret shame, some hidden bitterness --
Yet evermore must sing the same refrain.
Silence once more. The air seems in a swoon
Beneath the heavens' thousand opening eyes
While from the far horizon's edge arise
The first faint silvery tresses of the moon.

we took a ride to home depot and picked out a sink and floor tiles and paint color and exhaust fan-wrote down the numbers of the items-now all we have to do is buy the stuff and get down to ripping stuff up and putting the new in.
we've been trying to get round to fixing the bathroom for a few years now but something ALWAYS happens to delay the project. i'm hoping nothing happens this time. we are getting too old for this type of stuff!

up- the rain has finally stopped! too much turkey last night but it was a very nice thanksgiving.
i felt bad tho, my nephew couldn't come. he had the stomach bug that has been making the rounds. my neice was out of state but my daughter and son in law and mai and little angus all came to my sister's place with us.
then-home early, jammified and under the comforter watching the annual pumkin chunken on t.v.

A beloved American tradition, Thanksgiving Day offers us the opportunity to focus our thoughts on the grace that has been extended to our people and our country. This spirit brought together the newly arrived Pilgrims and the Wampanoag tribe -- who had been living and thriving around Plymouth, Massachusetts for thousands of years -- in an autumn harvest feast centuries ago. This Thanksgiving Day, we reflect on the compassion and contributions of Native Americans, whose skill in agriculture helped the early colonists survive, and whose rich culture continues to add to our Nation's heritage. We also pause our normal pursuits on this day and join in a spirit of fellowship and gratitude for the year's bounties and blessings.
Thanksgiving Day is a time each year, dating back to our founding, when we lay aside the troubles and disagreements of the day and bow our heads in humble recognition of the providence bestowed upon our Nation. Amidst the uncertainty of a fledgling experiment in democracy, President George Washington declared the first Thanksgiving in America, recounting the blessings of tranquility, union, and plenty that shined upon our young country. In the dark days of the Civil War when the fate of our Union was in doubt, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a Thanksgiving Day, calling for "the Almighty hand" to heal and restore our Nation.
In confronting the challenges of our day, we must draw strength from the resolve of previous generations who faced their own struggles and take comfort in knowing a brighter day has always dawned on our great land. As we stand at the close of one year and look to the promise of the next, we lift up our hearts in gratitude to God for our many blessings, for one another, and for our Nation. This Thanksgiving Day, we remember that the freedoms and security we enjoy as Americans are protected by the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces. These patriots are willing to lay down their lives in our defense, and they and their families deserve our profound gratitude for their service and sacrifice.
This harvest season, we are also reminded of those experiencing the pangs of hunger or the hardship of economic insecurity. Let us return the kindness and generosity we have seen throughout the year by helping our fellow citizens weather the storms of our day.
As Americans gather for the time-honored Thanksgiving Day meal, let us rejoice in the abundance that graces our tables, in the simple gifts that mark our days, in the loved ones who enrich our lives, and in the gifts of a gracious God. Let us recall that our forebears met their challenges with hope and an unfailing spirit, and let us resolve to do the same.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 25, 2010, as a National Day of Thanksgiving. I encourage all the people of the United States to come together -- whether in our homes, places of worship, community centers, or any place of fellowship for friends and neighbors -- to give thanks for all we have received in the past year, to express appreciation to those whose lives enrich our own, and to share our bounty with others.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-third day of November, in the year of our Lord two thousand ten, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
BARACK OBAMA
(thanks nancy)

Well, A Girl Potato and Boy Potato had eyes for each other, And finally they got married, and had a little sweet potato, which they called'Yam.'
Of course, they wanted the best for Yam.
When it was time, they told her about the facts of life.
They warned her about going
out and Getting half-baked, so she wouldn't get accidentally mashed, and get a bad name for herself like 'Hot Potato,' and end up with a bunch of
TaterTots
Yam said not to worry, no spud would get her into the sack and make a rotten potato out of her!
But on the other hand she wouldn't stay home and become a couch potato either.
She would get plenty of exercise so as not to be skinny like her shoestring cousins.
When she went off to Europe , Mr. And Mrs. Potato told Yam to watch out
for the hard-boiled guys from Ireland .
and the greasy guys from France called the French Fries. And when she went out West, To watch out for the Indians so she wouldn't get scalloped..
Yam said she would stay on the straight and narrowAnd wouldn't associate
with those high class Yukon Golds, or the ones from the other side of the tracks who advertise their trade on all the trucks that say, 'Frito Lay.'
Mr. And Mrs. Potato sent Yam to Idaho P.U. (that's Potato University ) so that when she graduated she'd really Be
in the chips.
But in spite of all they did for her, one-day Yam came home and announced she was going to marry Tom Brokaw.
Tom Brokaw!
Mr And Mrs. Potato were very upset.
They told Yam she couldn't possibly
Marry Tom Brokaw because he's just.......

Fable of the porcupine
It was the coldest winter ever. - Many animals died because of the cold. The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together. This way they covered and protected themselves; but the quills of each one wounded their closest companions even though they gave off heat to each other.
After awhile, they decided to distance themselves one from the other and they began to die, alone and frozen. So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth.
Wisely, they decided to go back to being together. This way they learned to live with the little wounds that were caused by the close relationship with their companion, but the most important part of it, was the heat that came from the others. This way they were able to survive.
Moral of the story: The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people, but the best is when each individual learns to live with the imperfections of others and can admire the other person's good qualities
The Moral of the story!..........LEARN TO LOVE THE PRICKS IN YOUR LIFE!

i tried sake for the first time last night. we went to an early thanksgiving dinner at my son-in-law's father and step mom's home last night. it was a very nice dinner and i had a lot of fun with mai there and really enjoyed meeting bing w. and his new wife. bing translated a lot of the paperwork involved in mai's adoption. that was a big plus. that way my daughter and her hubby were able to find out what the chinese officials had written about my little sweetie and her care before she came to us. bing works with my son-in-law's step mom at cmu. he is a wonderfully charming man and his wife is a sweet woman.
about the sake- it's good, but rather bland. i had a tiny glass. eric told me to be careful because it has a way of really sneaking up on a person. i was just kind of tickled to have a new experience at my age!

pretty morning. drove home last night about 10 to 11 and had 1 deer jump out in front of me- stopped the car in time-deer looked at me and turned around and ran into a field. then a grey fox ran straight across the road. don't see those too often. red foxes are far more seen round here. THEN, as i pulled into the driveway i stopped again because a big buck was in my neighbor's yard right across from my car. i pulled down the drive VERY slowly. went into the house and got max. i figured that buck would be long gone from the driveway light being on.
NOPE, max nearly pulled my arm out trying to run after that big deer! i pulled max back and took him back inside. that buck was in no mood to back off and tho max didn't realize it-that buck would have kick me and max 's asses!
i was glad to get into bed-believe me!
(big rack on that buck too)

“It is reprehensible to ask working people, including many who do physically-demanding labor, to work until they are 69 years of age. It also is totally impractical. As they compete for jobs with 25-year-olds, many older workers will go unemployed and have virtually no income. Frankly, there will not be too much demand within the construction industry for 69-year-old bricklayers.” Bernie Sanders
me- i watched the tape of these 2 old vultures outlining their recommendations. i watched it TWICE!
WTF!!! why not just put old people on a frigging ice floe and be done with it??!!

NOW Calls On President Obama To Reject
Fiscal Commission's Assault On Social Security
Statement of NOW President Terry O'Neill
November 11, 2010
"Millions of women will be pushed into poverty and out of the middle class if preliminary recommendations for cutting Social Security benefits made by the National Commission for Fiscal Responsibility and Reform are adopted," NOW President Terry O'Neill says.
"Co-chairs Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles have come up with a proposal that would move Social Security toward being a welfare program, rather than the guaranteed income security program it is designed to be," O'Neill says. "That's the opposite of what's needed. In fact, benefits need to be improved -- not cut -- for women. At a time when so many working families are struggling, the co-chairs' proposal is terrible policy. I hope we can count on the president to reject it out of hand."
The Fiscal Commission Co-Chairs' Proposal suggests increasing the payroll tax to capture 90 percent of wages by 2050. O'Neill says: "We should just scrap the cap on taxable income entirely right now, and increase benefits for all. That would ensure Social Security solvency far into the 21st century and provide for an economically secure retirement for all workers."
"Increasing the retirement age -- even though it is gradual -- is one of their worst ideas, O'Neill continued. "Millions of women and men who work at physically demanding jobs cannot work into their late 60's. For them, extending the retirement age will amount to a deep and cruel benefit cut."
"Strengthening everyone's income security should be a primary goal of this administration and of the new Congress. This past election was a clear demonstration that people are hurting because of the recession's effect on employment, housing values, and savings. Undermining Social Security is absolutely the wrong way to go," O'Neill said.
NOW calls upon President Obama to reject the Co-Chairs' Proposal and commit his administration to strengthening Social Security by scrapping the cap and increasing benefits for the hard-working people of this country.
