Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it,

don't have it on their schedule, didn't know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.

I got to thinking one day about all those people on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that

fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I've tried to be a little more flexible.

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband or partner didn't suggest going

out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word 'refrigeration' mean nothing to you?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched 'Jeopardy' on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said , 'How about going to lunch in a half hour?' She would gas up

and stammer, 'I can't. I have clothes on the line; my hair is dirty; I wish I had known yesterday; I had a late breakfast;

it looks like rain'. And my personal favorite: 'It's Monday.' She died a few years ago. We never did have that lunch together.

Because people cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches. We live on a sparse diet of promises

we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We'll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Tommy toilet-trained. We'll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet.

We'll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning,

we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of 'I'm going to,' 'I plan on,' and 'Someday, when things are settled down a bit........'

When anyone calls my 'seize the moment' friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas.

Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you're ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades

and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It's just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula

and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now...go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to...not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone

call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting?

Make sure you read this to the end; you will understand why I sent this to you. Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping

on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight or gazed at the setting sun and into the night? Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask 'How are you?'

...........Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head? Ever told your child, 'We'll do it tomorrow.' And in your haste,

not see her sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? ..........Why not just call today and say 'Hi'?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift....thrown away. Life is not a race, take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

me- thanks, denise

May is Neurofibromatosis (NF) Awareness Month. NF Fact #25: NF1 sufferers show numerous cafe-au-lait spots (they will have at least five if not more of these patches), freckles in the groin or armpit and skin neurofibromas, which are small rubbery skin lesions, are also common. Masses in the spinal cord and brain among other neurologic complications are other symptoms to which children with NF are susceptible ♥

Mini horse

well, i wasn't raptured up- but i am pretty badly sunburned!
spent the day at the indiana twp youth days wasn't paying attention and tah dah- i'm a crispy critter.
had fun tho- they brought in a petting zoo! baby cows and teeny piggies, miniature horses and goats, baby chickens and ducklings a baby llama and a small donkey that clamped down on the knuckle of my forefinger while looking for a handout. i'm fine-luckily-little donkeys have flat teeth and after he figured out that i didn't have any donkey treats and with a gentle poke of my other finger he opened up his mouth and just gave me such a look of disappointment. i had fun! of course, max was truly confused when i got back home. i smelled of critters that he had no idea even existed! i could have happily smuggled home the brown chicken and the teeny black and white piggy and a pygmy goat or two!

i took pictures. i also took pictures of the SWAT team's truck thingy(it is HUGE) and some of their stuff. it was a really great event.

~ Business 101 ~

Mike wanted desperately to have sex with this really cute, really hot girl in his office, but she was dating someone else. One day Mike got so frustrated that he went to her and said, I'll give you $100 if you let me have sex with you.
The girl gave him a knowing smile but said, NO!
Mike said, I'll be real fast. I'll drop the money on the floor, you bend down and I'll finish by the time you've picked it up.
She thought for a moment and said that she would check with her boyfriend. So she called him and explained the situation.
Her boyfriend said, Ask him for $200, and pick up the money really fast. He won't even be able to get his pants down.
She agreed and accepts Mike's offer.
Over half an hour goes by and
the boyfriend is still waiting for his girlfriend's call.

Finally, after 45 minutes the boyfriend calls and asks, What happened?

Still breathing hard, she managed to reply, The bastard had all quarters ! ! !

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1.. Term Limits. 12 years only, one of the possible options below..

A. Two Six-year Senate terms

B. Six Two-year House terms

C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2.. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3.. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security..

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4.. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5.. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise or fall by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6.. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7.. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8.. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message. Maybe it is time.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!! If you agree with the above, pass it on.

If not, just delete

Amazing Women Rock:

‎(Daniel via Bill Koukmenides):

Matron Vivian Bullwinkel tried to enlist in the Royal Austrian Air Force during World War II but was denied because of her feet. She managed to get into the Australian Army as a Nurse in the regimental 2/13th Australian General Hospital in Singapore. Just before the fall of Singapore, she and the rest of the nurses, injured and some civilians were evacuated on the SS Vyner Brooke.

The ship was sunk on the 14th of Jan. 1942 by Japanese aircraft, even though it was clearly marked as a medical transport with red crosses. Some of the survivors, including 21 nurses, made it to land at Radji Beach on Banka Island. They found 100 British soldiers. They decided to surrender to the Japanese. Some of the civilian women and children went to find someone to surrender to, while the soldiers, wounded and nurses to care for them stayed and waited. The Japanese Army arrived and executed all the British soldiers including wounded. They then ordered the nurses into the sea. They machine-gunned the nurses from behind.

Although wounded; shot through the neck, Nurse Bullwinkel survived, along with 1 wounded British soldier. They again surrendered 12 days later. They were both suffering from sun exposure, and the British soldier died soon afterwards. Near the end of WWII the Japanese guards, locked the gates and fled. A week later the local Malays broke into the women's prison and turned it into a men's prison. They found bundles of dirty rags. My friend Bill notes that his *grandfather* was one of those human bundles. She along with other nurses and local Malays saved his life. Bill says, "If I am ever protective of women, nurses, doctors, indigenous peoples, or those smaller or less able to defend themselves, let me know, but at least you know one of the reasons."

What's not well known is Vivian's life after the war. She served my friend Bill Koukmenides' Australian community as a health care provider "for the rest of her life, looking after polio victims, using her knowledge of long term confinement to help them, at Fairfield Hospital where she became director of Nursing. And she did a great deal to support the locals where she had been incarcerated. And she forgave her tormentors. I repeat she forgave her tormentors." Thank you for this beautiful tribute, Bill.

The fact is, we pay for the lifestyle we expect. Without taxes, our lifestyles would be totally different and much harder. America would be a third world country. The less we pay, the less we get in return. Americans pay less taxes today since 1958 and is ranked 32nd out of 34 of the top tax paying countries. Chile and Mexico are 33rd and 34th. The Republicans are lying when they say that we pay the highest taxes in the world and are only attacking taxes to reward corporations and the wealthy and to weaken our infrastructure and way of life. So next time you object to paying taxes or fight to abolish taxes for corporations and the wealthy, keep this quote in mind…

“I like to pay taxes. With them, I buy civilization.” ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

‎"Paul repeated his call for eliminating FEMA and when reminded that much of the country is suffering from natural disasters, he said that people who are in the path of a wildfire or tornado are dumb for being there. According to Paul’s brand of libertarianism, government has no place being involved in anything except national defense, and he does not see the need for government to take care of its citizens."

Tattoo of Leviticus 18:22, which forbids homosexuality: $200.

BUTTERCUPS AND GOLF BALLS

Towards the end of a round of golf, Dave hit his ball into the woods
and found it in a patch of pretty, yellow buttercups.

Trying to get his ball back in play, he ended up thrashing just about
every buttercup in the patch.

All of a sudden, POOF! In a flash and puff of smoke, a little old woman
appeared.

She said, “I’m Mother Nature! Do you know how long it took me to
make those buttercups? Just for doing what you have done, you won’t
have any butter for your popcorn for the rest of your life… better
still,
you won’t have any butter for your toast for the rest of your life. As
a
matter of fact, you’ll never have any butter for anything for the rest
of
your life!!!”

Then, POOF!...she was gone!

After Dave recovered from the shock, he hollered for his friend,
“Fred, where are you?”

Fred yells back, “I’m over here in the pussy willows.”

Dave shouts back, “DON’T SWING, FRED!” “FOR THE LOVE OF GOD,
DON’T SWING!”

The Green Thing

In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that she should
Bring her own grocery bag because plastic bags weren't good for the
Environment.
The woman apologized to him and explained,
"We didn't have the green thing back in my day."
The clerk responded, "That's our problem today.
The former generation did not care enough to save our environment."
He was right; that generation didn't have the "green thing" in its day.
Back then, they returned their milk bottles,
Soda bottles and beer bottles to the store.
The store sent them back to the plant to be washed
And sterilized and refilled,
So it could use the same bottles over and over.
So they really were recycled.
But they didn't have the "green thing" back in that customer's day.
In her day, they walked up stairs,
Because they didn't have an escalator in every store and office building.
They walked to the grocery store and
Didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine
Every time they had to go two blocks.
But she was right. They didn't have the "green thing" in her day.
Back then, they washed the baby's diapers
Because they didn't have the throw-away kind.
They dried clothes on a line,
Not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts -
Wind and solar power really did dry the clothes.
Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters,
Not always brand-new clothing.
But that old lady is right, they didn't have the "green thing" back in her day.
Back then, they had one TV, or radio, in the house -
Not a TV in every room.
And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief,
Not a screen the size of the state of Montana .
In the kitchen, they blended and stirred by hand because
They didn't have electric machines to do everything for you.
When they packaged a fragile item to send in the mail,
They used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it,
Not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap.
Back then, they didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline
Just to cut the lawn. They used a push mower that ran on human power.
They exercised by working so they didn't need to go to a health club
To run on treadmills that operate on electricity.
But she's right, they didn't have the "green thing" back then.
They drank from a fountain when they were thirsty
Instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time
They had a drink of water.
They refilled their writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen,
And they replaced the razor blades in a razor
Instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.
But they didn't have the "green thing" back then.
Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus
And kids rode their bikes to school or walked
Instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service.
They had one electrical outlet in a room,
Not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances.
And they didn't need a computerized gadget
To receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space
In order to find the nearest pizza joint.
But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful the old folks
Were just because they didn't have the "green thing" back then?

New Florida gun law...

A pending law in Florida would make it illegal for pediatricians to ask families whether guns are being safely kept in their patients' homes. Supporters of the NRA-backed measure insist that questions by doctors and other health care professionals amount to an invasion of privacy and a violation of their Second Amendment rights.
Pediatricians routinely ask parents about safety concerns in the home like whether or not the family has a pool, if the child wears a bike helmet, or rides in a car seat. To gun advocates, however, questions about the presence of firearms in a child's environment are intrusive and go too far.
"We take our children to pediatricians for medical care, not moral judgment, not privacy intrusions," says NRA lobbyist Marion Hammer. "This bill is about helping families who are complaining about being questioned about gun ownership, and the growing anti-gun political agenda being carried out in examination rooms by doctors and staffs."
Pediatrician Dr. Louis St. Petery says that questions about safety are part of what physicians call "anticipatory guidance". Doctors routinely assess the safety environment of patients and parents in order to more accurately advise them on how to avoid accidents and injuries.
The bill has been ratified by both houses of the Florida state Legislature and awaits the signature of Governor Rick Scott.

me- this is just pandering to the gun lobby. my doctor always asks about seat belts every time i go-what's the harm in reminding patients-especially parents-about gun safety? (locks and such)
