i'm finished with the poem that i had been avoiding, yet
working on forever.
this one is very personal, painfully so,
but it needed to be set down on paper
mirror images
she grew up in the mirror
in the upstairs hallway
still touches it with the
forefinger of her left hand
points at the reflection
but refuses to look
she grew up with the girl in the mirror
at first just a tiny finger
barely reaching
even on tiptoes
at seven the first communicant
smiled unaware that ten years along
a wild child with dry eyes
and a wet mouth would touch a forefinger
between those dark eyes
and cock her thumb
grown old in spite of her
and still she touches an aging finger
where those eyes should be
if she was foolish enough to look

hiya charlie! i am pleased that you liked this, it was a very difficult thing.
i'll tell bob, he's in the kitchen using a small tin can as a hockey puck. he is really growing fast, he's lost that fluffy baby kitty look. : )
