of towhees and indigo buntings...


yes, they are both back.
15 years ago when i moved here i had no idea what a towhee was. i saw a bird by the jagger bush in the back and looked it up in my bird book. it was a towhee. the book said that if there are towhees around there may be indigo buntings. well, i had no idea what they were either but the name intrigued me.
a few nights later, there at my back deck feeder was the most beautiful tiny little bird. he was an iridescent peacock blue and looked as if he were someone's pet songbird lose from their cage.
every spring now, the towhee pair comes back to the jagger bush (which i let grow and has become home to more than a few bird families)and a week later the indigo bunting appears.

i am blessed.
