my hometown!

got this pic from wtae.com

there are some others there if you want to see.
yes, a micro burst.

funny, we never ever used to get them.
never even heard of them before.
my mom's going on 89 and she says she's never seen anything
like last night and she's lived there her whole life.

Yes i live in Aspinwall as well. but i was not home that evening until 9pm. i just missed the storm. but driving off the highland park bridge into Aspinwall was creepy. it was dark and all the street lights were out.

this morning as i got ready to leave for work i decided to take a drive around. i didn't realize the damage that had been done until then. i ran home and got the camera.

i feel bad for everyone that had to deal w/ the storm. but i'm sure glad i missed it.

Mirobursts can be very nasty. I remember back in the80's (when I worked for the power company in DC) we had one in Bethesda. A very isolated area was out of power for 4-5 days. People couldn't believe it...

I remember a few years back (maybe 5-7 yrs?) there was a really bad storm that caused a good bit of damage around my mother's house (O'Hara Twp)... She lost a huge Willow tree. I don't remember if it was a microburst or a mini-tornado, though.

we spent an hour last night trying to get to the top of the hill in aspinwall. there are at least 3 ways to get there and all of them were blocked by downed trees and wires.
we couldn't even get to aspinwall until we came thru the golf course and onto freeport rd by the old plaza.
then there was a foot of water by the waterworks and the traffic lights were off.
mall drivers suck as is. they were way over the top last night!

the scariest was driving thru fox chapel. it's dark there to begin with and the roads are narrow and twisted. last night we'd come round a bend and there would be a tree across the road and many times a line of 3 or 4 cars sitting there or trying to turn around or back up!

my mom still has no power, but it is supposed to be on in the next few hours.

i'll bet it was spooky coming across the bridge!
it was surreal driving thru aspinwall last night, seeing the tree on the church at 4th and center and all the rest of the damage, flattened cars and the whole town just wandering around staring.

hope to never see it again!
