chinese folklore says that invisible red threads connect a newborn's
spirit to all the people that will be important to his/her life and to
the ancestors as well. as the child grows, the threads shorten to bring
these people closer together. this is mai's poem.
red thread
child of gold
not born of my daughter's body
born instead, of her heart.
eyes of midnight
ashes of rose smiles
a cherub's mouth that
weaves a family of man.
child of the orient
your red thread binds us to
ancestors by fate and love
from the heavens across time
and continents to us
your family of the heart.
child of joy
birthed of our spirits
through distance and time
our love runs through you
instead of blood.
child of america
red silk shining in the
patchwork quilt of home.
you will add your own strengths
your beauty unique to the piece.
child of man
we are all one
a family tied by threads of love
you bless us all
child of the universe
child of ours.

Yep, I got a lot of time for Ancient Chinese wisdom. Modern society has broken perfect links which the chinese, and native americans held with their ancestors. My family and my tradition held on to them for thousands of years, and was still present in my grandparents generation (both sets of g/parents). Alas the younger generation is too distracted with tv, puter games, cars, ipods or whatever to hold on to any link. The attention span of a ...
dunno, what has less attention span than modern society and especially today's youth.
PS - Almost forgot. Great Poem!
i'm glad you liked it. it is a special poem as you might imagine.
i wanted it as good as i could make it and as true.
she is beyond anything i imagined she could be.
...but you love and your family's love make her yours. It doesn't matter where or when she was born. What matters is that she is love and that she gets love, which judging by your poem she gets in spades.
How wonderul are your words, she is also lucky to have you.
I'm sure that she will turn out to be a rightly guided spirit just as her Grandma.I love you and miss you.Charlie Tee :-)
