shoe form??

i spend a few hours bagging and dragging garbage out of my mom's house yesterday morning.
did myself proud. the pile for the garbage truck was a good 4 and a half feet high and about 10 feet long.

anyway, this was hidden away in a corner of the basement. i think it's a iron shoe form as my great grandfather on my dad's side came here around around 1880? and he was a cobbler. it looks like a shoe form and it weighs a ton!

Looks like something you would put a shoe on to repair it or else what someone would rest their shoe on while the shoe was being polished. Otherwise, I don't know. I would hang on to it.

oh i am. i'm pretty sure it's a cobbler's form. the shoe part is curved as if it were the sole of a foot. my family, hung on to a lot of stuff for ages. that's why we have been emptying the house for weeks now. i have my grandfather's(on my mom's side) sausage stuffer. big cast iron round thing with a spout on the side and a plate that you screw down to press out the sausage into the casings. i used to help with the sauge making when i was a kid.
