Something my wife introduced me to was "firsties" - someone provides you with an opening line or two and you finish it off. I can't say the few I wrote rank among my best work but it gets you moving and that's all you really need.
Here's one I was given only I cheated and made it the poem's second line:
I can't believe it's almost Friday and I need to put together another cat post. Boy, those Fridays roll around in a hurry. (You don't hear anyone saying that very often!)
